Beyond Doubt to Make a Decision

The life of Jesus pushes us off the fenceposts of doubt and indecision, calling us to make up our minds about him. For even the refusal to decide actually is a decision when it comes to him: "Whoever is not with me is against me," he warns (Luke 11:23).

That is why Jesus says, "Seek and you will find" (Matthew 7:7). And he says, "The truth will set you free" (John 8:32), since he knows where the truth is found: "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6).

The choice is clear: "How long will you waver, limping between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him!" (1 Kings 18:21). This is the inescapable decision that Jesus puts before us all. "Choose this day whom you will serve" (Joshua 24:15), for "No one can serve two masters" (Matthew 6:24). Jesus says to us even now, "Come, follow me."
